MASTER CONTRACTORS and the RSE PROGRAMME

Many of our Members have been given approval by Immigration New Zealand under the Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) Scheme to bring workers to New Zealand from our Pacific Island neighbours to meet the temporary shortage of labour that occurs at peak harvest times.

Our other members do not have the same labour requirements and have therefore chosen not to use the RSE Scheme but have met the eligibility criteria for membership of Master Contractors by achieving similar levels of compliance by demonstrating to us that they are financially viable, comply with relevant New Zealand employment legislation and have good employment practices.

Support for Master Contractors

The value of membership of Master Contractors has been recognised by the National Labour Governance Group (NLGG).  NLGG members include: HortNZ, New Zealand Winegrowers, Pipfruit New Zealand, New Zealand Kiwifruit Growrs Inc, Senior Officials from Department of Labour, MAF and Ministry of Social Development as well as the HortITO and Council of Trade Unions (CTU).  The NLGG has agreed:   “To fully support Master Contractors, and to strongly encourage industry to phase in the requirement for growers to use contractors who are either RSE or MC accredited, into industry assurance schemes by 2013.
